How to Get Your First 100 Viewers as a New Streamer (Without Ads or Luck)

2026-07-10 · 7 min read · by Justin Lott, founder of StreamTwin

Here's the uncomfortable truth about your first 100 average viewers: almost none of them will find you through the platform's directory. At zero followers you're on page 40 of a list nobody scrolls. Your first hundred come from exactly three places — and once you know that, the daily to-do list writes itself.

Source 1: Clips (roughly half your first hundred)

Short-form video is the front door of live streaming now. The funnel: stream → clip the best 30 seconds → post to TikTok/Shorts/Reels → viewer watches, checks the channel, catches you live next time. The conversion is brutal — thousands of clip views per live viewer — which is why volume matters: 2–3 clips from every single stream, forever. The skill that decides everything is noticing the clip when it happens; moments buried in an 8-hour VOD die there. (It's literally why we built a director that says "that was the clip" in your ear.)

Source 2: Other streamers (a third)

Raids, collabs, and crew energy. Find 5–10 streamers at your size in your lane. Raid them at the end of every stream. Appear on each other's streams. Do event streams together. The math: five streamers with 20 viewers each who genuinely cross-promote behave like one channel with 100 — everyone's floor rises. This is the entire reason streamer crews exist, and why StreamTeams treats the crew as the unit of growth, not the individual channel.

Source 3: Appointment viewing (the rest — and the stickiest)

People who planned to be there. This only happens when they know what's coming: a schedule they trust and streams with actual premises ("Friday: chat votes where we eat, loser buys"). Announce the week ahead everywhere your audience touches — and give people a vote in what happens. A viewer who voted on Wednesday shows up on Friday to see if their pick won. That's not a trick; that's just television, and it works. (It's the mechanic behind StreamTwin's Slate — a TV guide fans follow, RSVP to, and vote on.)

What to ignore

The weekly scoreboard that actually predicts growth

Don't track average viewers week one — it'll break your heart and it lags everything. Track the inputs: streams on schedule (target: 100%), clips posted (target: 6+/week), raids/collabs done (target: 3+/week), and next week announced in advance (yes/no). Hit those four for twelve weeks straight and the viewer number takes care of itself.
